Pastoral care of the sick and dying is a very important part of our church's mission and ministries. The anointing of the sick can be administered to any member whose health is marked by serious illness, surgery or aging. This Sacrament is to be received during the early stages of illness. It is wrongful to delay the anointing until a person is actively dying.
The Sacrament can be repeated whenever a sick person again falls into serious sickness or whenever a more serious crisis develops during the same sickness. A Communal Anointing is celebrated annually at St. Peters and for Washington County at Little Lourdes Day in West Bend each year. Residents of the Scenic View Apartments/Slinger Housing Authority, Cedar Community and Autum Oaks Senior Living (where the Parish provides Mass monthly and Holy Communion weekly) are anointed three times annually. Those to be hospitalized are encouraged to be anointed and receive Holy Communion (as well as a good confession, if needed) prior to admission. In order arrange anointing for yourself or for a loved one, please call the pastor.

It is necessary to contact the pastor as soon as couple makes a decision to marry and at least 4 - 6 months prior to the anticipated time of their wedding in order to provide time sufficient for the preparation required for marriage in the Catholic Church by all dioceses in the State of Wisconsin. In order to be married at St. Peter's Parish, at least the bride or groom must be presently a registered, active member of the parish community. Weddings may also take place in instances where the bride or groom no longer live in the area yet desire to be married in their former parish, but only with the written permission of their present pastor attesting to their status as active practicing Catholics at his parish. The Common Policy for Marriage Preparation has three steps:
1. Assessment, including determination of canonical freedom to marry and involving the administration of the FOCCUS, a tool for helping a couple assess and deepen their relationship, with the assistance of trained volunteer couples;
2. Instruction, involving a couple's participation at an Archdiocesan Enrichment Program for the Engaged and a conference with the pastor, and, finally;
3. Liturgical, involving planning of the wedding ceremony. Guidelines with full details are available from the pastor.

We encourage parishioners interested and called to serve God in the Church as a priest, deacon, religious sister or brother. Please contact the pastor personally at 262/644-8083, ext 11, or the Vocations Office for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, Fr. Peter Berger at 1-414/747-6489. You can also check out the following sites: vocations@sfs.edu or www.thinkpriest.org. The Washington County Youth Discernment group is a program in collaboration with the Vocations Office of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee and the Carmelites at Holy Hill and hosted at St. Peter's, to help young men throughout Washington County come to better understand what it means to be a Man of God, and where He might be calling them to serve for their life. This group meets once a month for confessions, Mass, speakers, prayer, and food.
The pastor, parish nurse and a large number of extraordinary ministers visits and bring Holy Communion to homebound parish members on a regular basis.
Any parishioner may also request delegation from the pastor and bring Holy Communion home for an infirm family member or neighbor on a short or long-tern basis. A pyx for communion and a short prayer service format are supplied on request. The Parish Nurse visits homebound parish members weekly.

When a parishioner dies, contact the funeral home of your choice. Usually the funeral director will contact the pastor in order to arrange for the Mass or Service of Christian burial as well as sharing the necessary information with the parish. A time for the vigil/visitation as well as the funeral Mass/Services will be set. The pastor or deacon presiding at the funeral will contact the family to arrange a meeting to prepare the services with them (reflection on the life of the deceased, selection of readings and hymns, arranging family participation, etc.).
St. Peter Parish has associated with it two (2) parish owned/operated cemeteries for reverent committal of the bodily remains of our loved ones that our faith envisions. Old St. Peter Cemetery is located at 200 E. Washington Street (immediately behind our school facility – entrance driveway alongside Clare Hall) and has burials dating from 1861. Although there burials continue in this cemetery, there are no graves available for purchase; graves would become available for purchase in the event a family with unused sites determined to sell them back to the parish. This rarely happens. New St. Peter Cemetery is located at 4170 Highway 175 (approximately 1 mile north of the church, slightly outside present village boundaries). With slightly over an acre developed at present, when all 4.15 acres are developed the cemetery will be able to accommodate future needs well. The first burial in this cemetery was in 1985. All parishioners are welcome to purchase lots in a pre-need or at-need manner; rates and fees are available from the sexton or the pastor. All charges include permanent care. There are two sections with gravesites designated for inhumation arrangements; there is also an in-ground section specially designated for infant burials and the committal of cremated remains. An above ground niche structure for cremated remains (columbarium) is being planned. Gravesites may also be purchased by non-parishioners. Parishioners may purchase sites in a pre-need as well as at-need manner; rates and fees are available from either the pastor or the sexton. Non-parishioners may purchase sites; an additional non-parishioner surcharge applies. Gravesites must be paid for in full before they may be used (unless otherwise arranged with the pastor). A booklet detailing cemetery standards/regulations/privileges is available at request from the sexton or parish offices.
