Dress Code

“You shall be my witnesses.” (Act 1:8)  This passage gives us a task to do. We fulfill this task in many ways, including the way we work, play, walk, talk, and the way we dress. St. Peter’s students and staff should dress in such a way that they are effective Christian witnesses to others. Dress also affects the way we feel, the way we perform certain functions, and the way we behave. We can be in the world, but should not be of the world. The following dress code policy strives to establish a code for dress which maximizes learning potential while attending a Christian educational institution.

As directed by St. Peter’s Parish Council, the school has a dress code for the following reasons:

·  Good grooming and appropriate attire are important life skills.
·
Competition in attire is counterproductive in the learning environment.
·

The personal appearance of every student is a reflection of St. Peter School as a whole.

General Rules:

·  Uniforms for 4K are optional. Students are to be in uniform during school hours. This includes arriving at school and leaving the building for home in uniform. No logos or labels are to be visible. Out-of-Uniform days will be announced in the monthly school newsletter. Scouting uniforms may be worn on the day of your child’s scout meetings.

·  Whether in uniform or out of uniform, clothing must fit properly, be clean and in good repair. Shirts must be tucked in at all times. Skirts, jumpers and shorts must be of a reasonable length. Socks or tights must be worn. Students must limit jewelry and accessories. Hats and scarves are not to be worn in the classroom. It is recommended that tights, leggings or slacks be worn under skirts and jumpers from December 1st to April 1st.

Enforcement:

·  First time of non-compliance – Note will be sent home for parents to sign & return to school.

·  Second time of non-compliance – Note will be sent home for parents to sign & return to school.

·  Third time (or more) of non-compliance – Parents will be called to bring in the appropriate clothing. So they will not lose valuable learning time, the student will remain in the classroom until the appropriate clothing is brought to school.

·  The enforcement of the dress code is the responsibility of the teachers and principal. Any final decision regarding the dress of a student will be made by the principal.
