 Sacrament of Marriage

It is necessary to contact the pastor as soon as couple makes a decision to marry and at least 4 - 6 months prior to the anticipated time of their wedding in order to provide time sufficient for the preparation required for marriage in the Catholic Church by all dioceses in the State of Wisconsin.  In order to be married at St. Peter's Parish, at least the bride or groom must be presently a registered, active member of the parish community.  Weddings may also take place in instances where the bride or groom no longer live in the area yet desire to be married in their former parish, but only with the written permission of their present pastor attesting to their status as active practicing Catholics at his parish.  The Common Policy for Marriage Preparation has three steps:

   1. Assessment, including determination of canonical freedom to marry and involving the administration of the FOCCUS, a tool for helping a couple assess and deepen their relationship, with the assistance of trained volunteer couples;

   2. Instruction, involving a couple's participation at an Archdiocesan Enrichment Program for the Engaged and a conference with the pastor, and, finally;

   3. Liturgical, involving planning of the wedding ceremony.  Guidelines with full details are available from the pastor.
